Bundaberg Trip Day 1

20 November 2014

It has been a  long time since we have been able to get out on the road again. The past 6 weeks have been spent in fixing, maintaining and customising the Amesz 4×4 Truck. The Amesz is still without official name, and we still can’t decide on a title that suits him, although Truckosaurus Senior is starting to stick. A large storm hit Brisbane yesterday and it appears that it also hit south of Bundaberg as well. Maybe just as well we didn’t leave yesterday as planned.

We arrived in Palm Beach Bundaberg late in the afternoon. In the last 80kms or so, it was very evident that there had been considerable storm damage in the local area, with many fallen trees and much water pooled on the side of the road. The road to the beach had considerable water over it and much mud to navigate. The costal wind was considerable and we soon found a tent and campsite abandoned the day before.

Before navigating the sandy tracks, Steve had a new product he want to try. Tyre deflators. Having already set them to 30lbs this made it an easy job airing down the big super single tyres. They make a loud oscillating noise as they allow the air to escape. Sure beats holding a stick to the tyres for 5 minutes!!

With our previous camping in windy conditions we have found parking one side into the breeze works best as you can open up the downwind side to allow ventilation in.
