Exploring Katherine
29 July 2016
When we arrived at our camping spot last night we ran into a travelling companion named Chris (and his Isuzu). Turns out he also knew of the little camping spot we found back in 2006. Steve and Chris had a great evening chatting over some beer, whilst I rested after a relatively short walk around Katherine Gorge.
Today, I planned to do a bigger walk around Katherine Gorges 2 and 3. So I set out to Pat’s Lookout and Jadda’s Rock before venturing into Butterfly Gorge to access the Katherine River. At about 14kms to do the lot, I was well worn out, but happy wit the effort. The views along the gorge is incredible and certainly worth the trek.
Early afternoon we headed for a friends house in Katherine. It was strange being in civilisation proper for the first time in weeks. Good night was had by all eating Chinese food and drinking much cold drink.

Today we headed off to Edith Falls to walk the trails toward Sweetwater Pool. Last time we were here we did the shorter walks that most people do. Feeling a lot more time rich we headed off for the trail less travelled. We were rewarded with lily covered waterways and gentle cascading waterfalls, stopping for lunch along the way.
By early afternoon we were back at the snack shop having milk shakes and coke. So refreshing.

Rest Day! So Steve rotated the tyres on 4WDAUS, went for a drive around the many mango farms here and it was off to the shops where we ran into another Amesz truck owned by Annie and Carl from Tasmania. Steve had spoken to them a few years ago when research some of the options our truck and it was lovely meeting them in person.
