The Long Trip Home

West Coast to East Coast

9 November 2016

Today we said our goodbyes, happy in the knowledge we will return and see our wonderful friends next year. First stop along the way was to see the amazing sight of the thousands of Grass Trees (Blackboys) in flower. This mass flowering was triggered by the bushfires earlier in the year that threatened Cervantes.

The next stop was to visit friends in Perth Daryl and Kath.

As we have been having issues with the rubber finishes on our windows were decided to get the manufacturer to rebuilt these before the rush trip to the east coast began.

Daryl spoilt us this morning with a huge cooked breakfast to ensure we would be set for a good trip home. He also showed Steve a shortcut to Sydney that wiped about 170kms off the trip. The time saved was excellent. We also got to visit the Breakaways (yes another great rock formation) on the way through. We camped the eastern side of Norseman. Picked up fuel east of Perth.

Very early start today, but the weather gods have been kind with cool temperatures and a tail wind. This section of the trip has the longest straight road in Australia, known as 90 Mile Straight and an incredible drop off the cliff named Madura Pass.

It was early afternoon when we crossed the WA SA Border.

Camped near Yalata.

Another early start as we took advantage of the 20 degree temperatures and strong tail winds. Just before finding camp we took on fuel at Port Pirie. The driving was very hard travelling south into 40km/h wind into the port (a strong headwind).

Another early start today as we headed out of SA into Victoria. We only were in Victoria for 100kms before NSW. Camped near Wagga Wagga.

Arrived in Sydney to much traffic and the occasional accident (no ours thank goodness). Arrived about 4pm. The longest part of the trip over. Here we will rest for a couple of days before making the last leg of the trip.
