With Friends in the Bush

4th June 2016

It was a very quiet and grey sunrise this morning. No trains passed the station through the night. Reading the local history sign, this station was the terminus on the line fore it was extended over the Drummond ranges. It was here in 1960, this was also the site of one of the worst Queensland train disasters with a passenger train derailing into a creek.

After giving the Roos time to get off the road we headed off again west.

Arrived mid-afternoon in Longreach where we met up with Ross, Ailsa, Karen, Wazza, Don, Janine Kooie.

After scouting round Longreach we settled on a camp by 4pm.

Longreach to Boulia. Was a long day of driving today, but we did get time to stop at a few places. This included Cawnpore Lookout which was unbelieveably green, MacKunda Station Pub where the publican had such a dry witt, the setting for the Goldstone movie recently shot near MacKunda and lastly, camping near the Burke River. Will let the photos do the talking as I am ready for bed.
