2002 – Adelaide, Perth, Exmouth, and Monkey Mia: A Journey Full of Friends and Adventure!
Back in the days before digital cameras ruled the world, I set off on an unforgettable adventure along Australia’s spectacular West Coast. Along the way, I met wonderful people, explored breathtaking landscapes, and ticked off some lifelong dreams.
First Stop: Adelaide – A Warm Welcome and Stunning Views
The journey kicked off in Adelaide, where my lovely friends Shirley and her husband took me under their wing for some local exploring. We wandered Fishermans Wharf, soaked in the charm of Victor Harbour, and topped it all off with a magical sunset at Mount Lofty. What a way to start!
Perth and the Wonders of the South Coast
Next up: Perth, where my friend Gavin played the perfect tour guide. Our adventure took us deep into Western Australia’s south coast, discovering treasures like the mighty Gloucester Tree, the mesmerising Tree Top Walk, and the legendary Valley of the Giants. Absolutely breathtaking!
Exmouth – Where the Ocean Beckoned
With a long-time dream of diving in mind, I set my sights on Exmouth—1,400 km up the coast. Armed with a hire car and a spirit of adventure, I hit the road early and arrived by dusk. Exmouth was love at first sight—red soils meeting the impossibly blue ocean, a paradise untouched by time.
Snorkeling straight off the beach into vibrant coral, darting fish, and graceful turtles? Yes, please! Village Dive got me trained up, and before long, I was completing my open water certification, including unforgettable dives under the world-famous Navy Pier.
Beachside Fun and Canyon Adventures
Along the way, I made some fantastic friends, and together we soaked up the Exmouth beach scene and ventured into the striking Charles Knife Canyon. As always, goodbyes came too soon, with my travel buddies heading north while I journeyed south toward Perth once more.
Monkey Mia Magic—A Birthday to Remember
Monkey Mia welcomed me on my birthday with an experience I’ll never forget: feeding the dolphins! Seriously, what better way to celebrate than with these playful creatures?
One last drive to Perth wrapped up my adventure, but in classic Alison fashion—I missed my flight home. Smooth move!
