Alison Does the West Coast

2002 – Adelaide, Perth, Exmouth and Monkey Mia.

In a time before digital cameras, I took off to do the West Coast of Australia. It was an amazing time meeting friends along the way. Of course to get to the West Coast you need to stop off along the way. So first stop for the adventure was Adelaide. Some lovely friends took me out to explore close by Adelaide. We visited Fishermans Wharf, Victor Harbour and caught the sunset at Mount Lofty. Such a wonderful experience with Shirley and her husband. From here I moved on to Perth where my friend Gavin showed me around.

Gavin and I headed off to Western Australia’s south coast for a look round. There is so much to see including the Glouster Tree, Tree Top Walk and the Valley of the Giants. What an amazing place to visit.

As I have always wanted to dive, the next stop was Exmouth some 1400kms north. With hire car I set off early in the morning arriving at Exmouth on dusk. I just love Exmouth, with its incredible red soils and blue ocean. Truly an unspoilt part of the world. Here you can snorkel off the beach amongst coral, fish and turtles. Village Dive put me through my training in the pool over a number of days. To finish the course I completed an open water dive and some dives under the world famous Navy Pier.

Whilst in Exmouth I also made a few friends and we took to the beach to have a great time. As well as the beach we all visited Charles Knife Canyon. Was a sad point when they headed further north as I headed south for Perth again. I arrived at Monkey Mia on my birthday and was lucky enough to be chosen to feed the dolphins. So cool. One last drive back to Perth for my flight home which I missed. Nice work Alison!
