Keep River National Park

Keep River National Park – The Little Bungle Bungles

6 August 2016

Decided to put some distance on today and we drove to Keep River National Park, arriving late in the afternoon. We were very undecided if we would visit Keep River National Park again as 2 years after our last visit in 2008 their major attraction (Nganalam art site) was damaged and destroyed by smoke and fire. The arch the art was placed on collapsed from the heat and every Australian lost something quiet valuable. We would like to present some photos of the Keep River NP – Nganalam art site from 2006.

Left early today to do the Jarnem Lookout Loop (about 8kms) which gives some just awesome views of an area many dub the Little Bungle Bungles. I will let the photos do the talking here as it is just a beautiful area.

Left camp this morning with WA in sight again. Of course we stopped for the customary photo at the border before going through the check point into WA, being the 5th crossing for this trip and 9th for the year

This gave us back 1 1/2 hours, so we arrived at Kununurra nice and early. Here we met Bundaberg travellers Ken and Jan who have an incredible job of producing the ultimate off road expedition vehicle. Weighing in at less than 4.5 T this FG84 canter has achieved down to an incredible 14l/100kms. Ken really takes care of the unit and has just completed the Munja Track which is really out there for adventure. The Toyo tyres had just completed 100,000kms and were in incredible condition.

One symbols of the area are the large Boab Trees we pass on a regular basis. These trees remind me of the trees in HR Puff n Stuff and look quiet strange with their limbs at strange angles and fat trunks.
