Nullarbor Challenge

Nullarbor to Kalgoorlie

1 September 2018

We bid good bye to Kath and Darryl and setoff a little further west. We wanted to take the opportunity to explore a bit more of the Nullarbor Plains, so after reaching the Nullarbor Roadhouse we turned south to the edge of the country.

I must admit I find this coastline incredible with its 100m shear drop off. From here we went off to explore Koonalda Station, woolshed and cave.

We decided to head back to the coastline to explore a little more as we got closer to the SA/WA border. Off in the distance we can see huge whales working their way along from East to West.

4 – 7 September 2018

Today started as normal and we setoff to enter WA and take a look at Eucla’s Telegraph station and wharf.

Suddenly, the clutch failed! Priorities changed and we found ourselves driving without clutch. We jumped on the phone and called a friend who we knew has a gold mine near Kalgoorie hoping he might have some contacts and luckily for us he did. So now we need to get the truck to Kalgoorie with no clutch. We are so glad the Nullarbor does not have too many hill climbs. A couple days of days later we arrived outside Kalgoorlie to camp before heading into town for help. A huge thank you to John from Cervantes and Spurtys Mechanical.

Spurtys were lovely enough to lend us the company ute and we headed off to Kalgoorlie to visit friends have coffee and catch up on some shopping.

By early afternoon we were back on the road heading to Esperance, WA south coast.
