Our Adventures in Thailand

Thailand: Ninth Visit and Still Nowhere Near Finished

By the ninth visit, most people would be running out of reasons to keep coming back. But Steve and Alison Kruger aren’t “most people,” and Thailand isn’t the sort of place you tick off and move on from. At this point, it’s less a destination and more a recurring chapter in their lives — one with better food, warmer mornings, and roads that always seem to whisper, “Go on, just a little further.”

Since that first trip in February 2017, Thailand has been quietly working its way under their skin. Not in a dramatic, life‑changing way — more like a slow, steady takeover. A familiar smell in a morning market. A favourite bowl of noodles. A mountain road that feels like an old friend. The kind of things you only collect when you keep showing up.

The map on this page proves it. What began as a neat outline of a country has become a full‑blown scribble of loops, detours, shortcuts, and “how did we end up here?” moments. Northern highlands, southern coastlines, city chaos, sleepy villages — it’s all there, traced in lines that look suspiciously like two people who can’t sit still.

Thailand’s big attractions still deliver, of course. Temples glowing at dusk. Markets waking before the sun. Beaches that look like nature applied its own filter. But the real magic — the stuff that keeps Steve and Alison returning — lives in the small, unplanned, wonderfully ordinary moments. The vendor who recognises them before they recognise him. The backroad that wasn’t on the map last year. The coffee shop that becomes a ritual. Locals who’ve shifted from strangers to familiar faces.

This ninth trip carries that perfect mix of comfort and curiosity. Old favourites revisited. New corners explored. A few detours that turned into highlights. A few highlights that turned into “we’re definitely coming back here.” The latest lines on the map — fresh, looping, sometimes questionable — show a country that still has plenty left to reveal.

So scroll on, follow the tracks, and settle in for another round. Because after nine visits, Thailand isn’t just a place Steve and Alison explore. It’s a place that keeps rewarding them for returning — and keeps giving them reasons to come back again.
